Indian Customs exchange rates for a shipping bill, you must refer to the official Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) (CBIC) notification for the relevant date, which is published on their ICEGATE website or through their publications like PIB. This notification lists the official exchange rates for 22 standard currencies, which are updated monthly or as needed .


The exchange rates of 22 currencies would now be published online in advance for ease of consumption by all importers and exporters. These exchange rates would be made available on the ICEGATE website twice a month i.e. on the evening of the first and third Thursdays of the month and would be effective from midnight of the following day. Detailed procedural modality has been explained in the Circular 07/2024 Customs dated June 25, 2024.



The published exchange rates will be stored in the system and will remain accessible on


ICEGATE for future reference, so as to enable a user to check the rates for a previous day.

The user can easily access the currency rates by clicking the “View Exchange Rate” link on the ICEGATE website.



Exchange Rate Automation Module

The module seamlessly updates the Customs directory with exchange rates for 22 currency codes by integrating APIs with SBI. It ensures real-time accuracy by directly updating the ICEGATE website with the latest rates for public access. Additionally, the module anticipates future needs by preparing integration with agencies such as DGFT, leveraging existing APIs to disseminate currency exchange rate information efficiently. This comprehensive approach not only enhances operational efficiency in customs management but also establishes a reliable framework for transparent and compliant international trade transactions, supporting stakeholders with up-to-date and reliable exchange rate data essential for financial calculations and regulatory compliance.
